About the Bowmore distillery

One of the greats Bowmore was built in 1779 and is one of the earliest recorded in Scotland.  Like all Islay distilleries, Bowmore is built close to the seashore.  At Bowmore, however, a warehouse is built below sea level and the Atlantic waves break against the thick walls imparting a special flavour to the whisky in the barrels.
